SAP Safyr
SAP Safyr connection allows you to leverage the imported Safyr lineage data for data governance and DQ monitoring purposes.
Unlike other source connections, SAP Safyr doesn’t access your data directly. Instead, it reads the assets imported through Safyr lineage integration and creates corresponding catalog items so you can easily govern and document SAP tables, views, and columns in ONE.
For Safyr lineage scanner configuration, see Safyr Lineage Scanner.
How the SAP Safyr connection works
The SAP Safyr connection extends the Safyr lineage integration, helping you get value from your SAP metadata faster.
For most technologies, lineage import maps the imported lineage to catalog items that already exist in ONE, without changing the Data Catalog. For SAP, those catalog items don’t exist yet: to profile, run DQ evaluation, or assign stewardship on your SAP S/4HANA and BW/4HANA assets, you would first have to manually create each catalog item.
The SAP Safyr connection removes that step: when you map it during lineage import, ONE creates the catalog items for you from the same lineage data.
Because the catalog items are built from the lineage data, the connection needs no direct access to the SAP system and no credentials.
If you don’t want to load SAP assets as catalog items, skip adding this connection.
Create a source
To create a source for SAP Safyr:
-
Navigate to Data Catalog > Sources.
-
Select Create.
-
Provide the following:
-
Name: The source name.
-
Description: A description of the source.
-
Stewardship: The source owner and roles.
-
Deployment (Optional): Choose the deployment type.
You can add new values if needed. See Lists of Values.
-
| Alternatively, add a connection to an existing data source. See Connect to a Source. |
Add a connection
-
Select Add Connection.
-
In Select connection type, choose Others > SAP Safyr.
-
Provide the following:
-
Name: A meaningful name for your connection. This is used to indicate the location of catalog items.
-
Description (Optional): A short description of the connection.
-
DPE label (Optional): Assign the processing of a data source to a particular data processing engine (DPE) by entering the DPE label assigned to the engine. For more information, see dpm-admin-console/dpm-and-dpe-configuration.adoc.
-
Override catalog item name: Select this option if you want metadata imports to overwrite the names of existing catalog items with the latest names from the data source.
If the option is not selected, catalog item names you set in ONE are preserved when metadata is reimported. See Edit catalog item metadata.
-
Lineage API URL: The Lineage API URL that DPE calls to read the SAP assets. Keep the default (
http://mde-svc:8070) if DPE can reach the Lineage service internally. Otherwise, provide the public URL, for example in a hybrid DPE deployment where an on-premises DPE cannot reach the cloud Lineage service.
-
| This connection does not use credentials; authentication between services is handled internally. |
Save and publish
Once you have configured your connection, save and publish your changes.
Next steps
When you import Safyr lineage, map your source to this connection. Catalog items for the SAP assets are created after the import finishes.
For step-by-step instructions on how to import lineage, see Import Lineage.
