Alerts and Notifications

Alerts and notifications provide a unified way to observe the health of your data and data pipelines and respond to issues quickly. The Alerts service monitors findings from across the platform — including data quality evaluation, profiling anomalies, and pipeline job executions — and groups related findings into actionable alerts. Notifications route information about these alerts to the right people through email, Slack, or Microsoft Teams.

Key concepts of alerts and notifications

Alerts and notifications are distinct but related concepts.

Alerts

Alerts represent real situations in your data environment that require attention. They are created automatically when the system detects findings such as failed jobs, quality thresholds breached, or data anomalies.

Related findings are grouped into a single alert to reduce noise and help you focus on root causes rather than individual symptoms. An alert remains active as long as any of its underlying findings are active.

Notifications

Notifications deliver information about alerts to users through your chosen channels. You configure notification policies that define which alerts trigger notifications and who receives them.

This separation means you can have alerts in the system without generating notifications, and you can fine-tune who gets notified about what.

Where to find alerts

You can access alerts in two ways: from the centralized Alerts page or directly from individual catalog items and jobs.

Alerts page

Alerts are accessible from the quick access menu in the main navigation, alongside Home, AI Agent, and Search.

Select Alerts to open the Alerts page, which contains two tabs:

  • Alerts feed: View and manage all alerts in your environment.

  • Notifications: Configure alert notification policies to determine who gets notified about which alerts.

Alerts on catalog items and jobs

You can also view alerts specific to an individual asset directly from its detail page.

Catalog items

On catalog item detail pages, select the Alerts tab to see all alerts related to that asset, such as profiling anomalies or data quality issues. You can filter alerts by status, resolution, severity, start time, and finding type.

Jobs

On pipeline job detail pages, select the Alerts tab to see alerts related to that job, such as pipeline step failures. The same filtering options are available.

From both views, you can select Create alert notification to set up a notification policy for alerts on that specific asset, provided you have the necessary permissions. If you don’t see this option, contact your administrator about obtaining the appropriate access.

How alerts and notifications work together

The relationship between findings, alerts, and notifications follows this flow:

  1. Findings are detected: Source systems (DQ evaluation, profiling, pipeline monitoring) report findings to the Alerts service.

  2. Alerts are created: The Alerts service groups related findings into alerts, using lineage information and asset relationships to minimize noise.

  3. Notifications are triggered: If an alert matches a notification policy you’ve configured, the specified audiences receive notifications through the configured channels.
